A filter automatically appended to every search — e.g. sc:3 (only ★3+), y:1980-2000, or both. An explicit filter you type overrides it. Shows as a pill in the search box; leave blank to disable.

Which services count as "streaming" for the Streaming link. A film available only on unchecked services shows the link as empty and white; a film on checked services has it filled in. In either case you must visit TMDB to see which services (they are a good site worth supporting!).

Long film summaries are truncated to ~400 characters with a “more” link. Check this to show them fully expanded by default.

Director and cast always show; writer, cinematography, music and box office are tucked behind a “more crew” link. Check this to show all of it by default.

The app silently adds some patterns to every query (e.g. a:*_film Wikidata mirrors, a:*_scene single-scene tags, a:tspdt1000, a:deep_todo). These are normally hidden from the search box and result headers — only what you typed is shown. Check this to reveal those global query adds in the displayed --exclude string.

Rare hand-produced research pages (podcast notes) exist for a few films. When on, an rnotes ↗ link joins the Wikipedia · IMDB · Trailer row on those films.

Adds an availability button to your lists that keeps only films available on your selected services (and links each to TMDB). Only applies to lists of 42 items or fewer.

Shows the ? (explain) and T (tags) buttons on film cards. On by default.

Shows the ✕ (hide this film from all searches) button on film cards. Off by default; already-hidden films stay manageable via the excluded-films view.

Rank matches by IDF² instead of IDF — sharpens the pull of rare shared tags. While on, negative focus is disabled. Mirrors the ranking dropdown on match pages.

Wikidata (*_film) and OMDb (*_omdb) genre mirror tags duplicate the canonical genre signal. When on (default), they are neither weighted in rankings nor shown on cards. Turn off to include and display them.

twist_ending_* tags name what kind of twist a film's ending has, so the tag itself is a spoiler. Hide keeps them out of all tag displays (they still work in search, matching, and =films-with); Redact shows them blurred until clicked; Show displays them like any other tag.

Films available from the Criterion Collection (tagged ea:criterion). When on, their cards are surrounded by a 5px red border.

Scores genre + tone by agreement instead of rarity — a shared genre/tone rewards, a mismatch counts against (e.g. a comedy won't match a tonally-opposite noir just because they share a plot premise). Each Ranking preset sets this: 0.5 on plot+ (the default), 1.5 on balanced, 2.5 on style+; higher = stronger pull toward same-genre/tone, 0 = off (genre/tone revert to ordinary IDF weighting). You can also set it by hand here.

Applies to every ranking (Plot, Style, Balanced): subtracts strength × (#unshared tags) ÷ (avg IDF of those tags), so a candidate with lots of extra/missing tags ranks lower (favors proportionally-similar films and remakes). 4 = default, higher = stricter, 0 = off.

Boost English-language films in similarity / Balanced rankings (no effect when you sort by year or rating). 0 off (default) · 1 +25% · 2 +50% · 3 +100% · 4 English only (hides non-English from results). Override per search with en:0…en:4.
